ICC continued their fine start to the season with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Airdrieonians.
ICC started the match well, and broke the dead lock after 30 minutes, when Ian McLelland picked the ball up in his own half and sent the ball wide to Chris Woodcock, while continuing his run into the box. Woody darted down the left, and picked Ian out for a fine low finish by the big man.
Just 4 minutes later, some fine passing released Woody again down the left, and his cross was smashed in by returning striker Ally Lindsay to make it 2-0 to ICC at half time.
After the break, Airdrieonians tried to find the openings, but the solid ICC defence left them with little chance of goals. However, ICC keeper John Lessells did have to look alert as a deep cross was met at the back post by the Airdrieonian forward, but Lessells somehow managed to claw the ball away when it looked to be heading in.
However, ICC were not going to sit back, and left back Ross Williams came close to the scoresheet with a rasping 25-yard RIGHT foot drive which was fantastically saved by the Airdrieonians keeper. McLelland also came close to his second, when he broke through but the keeper again made a great stop, with the defence managing to get the ball clear. Ally Lindsay also had the ball in the net but was denied his second with a dubious offside flag.
ICC sealed the points when Ally Lindsay knocked back a cross into the path of captain Fraser Buchan who cooly slotted home. Airdrieonians almost got a lifeline when their striker broke past the ICC defence to go through 1-on-1 with Lessells, but he saved well with his legs, and managed to scramble away t
he rebound. Substitute Andy McLean almost got on the score sheet with a fine drive, only for the Airdrieonians keeper to tip it round the post
ICC made it 4-0 when Craig Thomas stepped up to slot home a penalty. Looks like ICC have found their new penalty taker after recent misses by other ICC players.
Overall, a great performance from ICC and the winning run continues. |
